Answers to Many Questions

Here are my answers to many questions that were received in the last post...

I would also encourage you to check out our webpage www.watertownbenedictines.org that has recently been changed, the Vocations area might give you another look on your questions from other sisters than just myself...

1. Are you involved in the community at all? If so, what kinds of service are you involved in?

Yes, we are very much involved in the community of both Watertown and other communities that our Sisters minister in...We have a Benedictine Multicultural Center that serves the needs of the different culturals in Watertown and the surrounding towns. This link http://watertownbenedictines.org/?p=21 will take you to our website where we have a brochure of our multicultural center and what we offer there. Our Sisters help in schools and hospitals and churches.

2. As students we all have different ways of having fun like going to movie theater, or getting involved in sports. What do you do for fun?

We also go to the movie theater! We also rent movies and make popcorn and enjoy a movie with about 30 of us in our community room/living room. One of our Sisters teaches basketball to a gradeschool nearby. We play games and cards every evening. I, myself enjoy to watercolor as one of my hobbies.

3. What you think of the recent election? Personally, we think Obama was a great choice for president, but he is pro-choice, which makes it a sensitive issue. What are your views on the new president? Do you think the election was historical, and do you all look at politics the same way?

We were happy with the election results. I think President Obama will serve our country well. For the most part, we share the same political views. Yes, the election was historical!

4. Do you miss having a family life?

We have a family life, not in the way of marriage, but we are family here and we also all have our own family. I am the youngest of 9 children and I have 21 nieces and nephews. I see my family often as I like, but I also hold my monastic family as a priority as well.

5. Some of us like to get involved in more than one activity at a time, like balancing school and a part-time job. Do you have other professions?

Balance is a key Benedictine way. We strive to live a balanced life of work and prayer. I strive to balance my monastic life and duties that entails and also going back to school. I am taking a 2 year course in Computer Information Systems, for web development.

6. We love to travel to exotic locations and experience the world through our own eyes. Do you have the chance to travel, and get to know different cultures?

Yes, we travel...many of our Sisters have had the opportunity to travel to Rome and Switzerland. Switzerland is part of our history. View this link; http://watertownbenedictines.org/?p=11 Our Sisters also had a mission in Guatemala years aho and some have traveled back there since.

7. We all don't support all the wars that is going on all over the world today, such as in Iraq and Sudan. Do you support the wars?

We do not support the wars. We want peace in our world. We have a Peace and Justic Commitee that keeps us all aware of what we can do to support peaceful efforts.

8. We think it would be pretty hard to give up so much to live a life like yours. When did you join this monastery and why you decided to join this monastery? Do you ever think of what your life would be like if you didn’t join the monastery?

For this question, I am going to give you another website link that has my vocation story; http://watertownbenedictines.org/?p=828

Thank you for your comment, any other question, feel free to ask...S. Kim
